P54 Vs Seymour arms – 05/07/10 It was a bright sunny evening and having won the toss the P54’s inserted the Seymour arms at Hele’s school. This tactic is usually a good one if you want the game to finish early and get back to the pub! Having agreed on 18 overs a side Batsman (J Fraine) and Munster (J Harrison) strode to the wicket determined to write a new script. Batsman with his trusty sidekick then set about the P54 bowling with some aplomb. In a dazzling display of bovine mastery he peppered the deep mid wicket boundary, only succumbing to his Achilles heel (a straight delivery) when on 55. He was ably assisted by J Harrison (36) and also A Porter (0) and A Thomas (0) in setting a challenging target of 136 with the P54’s best bowling being A Worth (3 wickets for 38 off 4 overs). Not to be out done Bowlman (M Kalveitis) stepped up to the plate. Once G Boardman had removed both openers for not many Bowlman then took a Seymour record of 6 wickets for 13 runs off 4.1 overs scuppering any plans of victory harboured by the P54’s, ending on 51 all out. The game was played in an excellent spirit and sets the Seymour up for the end of the season run in for promotion.

Rising Sun we played OPM's at plymstock school in a cracking encounter. OPM's batted first and we had restricted them to 113-2 off 17 overs with 3 overs to go, some cracking hitting from Vincent took their score to 170-3 off 20 overs, Vincent hitting a quickfire 59no with chapman supporting with 55. The Rising Sun's fielding was immaculate up until the 18th over when a few overthrows were conceded on the back of Vincent's multiple 6's. In response to dropping a simple chance when Vincent had only scored a few runs Rob Walker came out and proceded to hit the OPM's attack all around the ground compiling 119 runs unbeaten with 6 sixes and 13 fours in our reply off 176-2 with 3 overs remaining, Robbie was supported beautifully by Chris Hayward with 31 giving The Rising Sun 2 wins out of 3 in the cup.
Onto last night at Sir John Hunt against Plymouth Electric on a grass wicket due to the artificial being damaged by kids. We won the toss and put Plym Electric in despite only having 10 players which was soon 9 when our skipper Larry Seymour damaged hs ankle ligaments trying to stop a drive on his follow through. We restricted them to 101, unsure who scored what or how many wickets as our scorebook wasn't filled in while we were fielding, Ed Hobbs took 1, Rob Walker 1 and Arran Smallridge 3 wickets. Phil Thomsen who is normally our demon swing bowler popped his cherry behind the stumps with a very solid performance in his first attempt at wicketkeeping including a cracking take off the bowling of Hobbs. The unprepared grass wicket was moving the ball around considerably. In response we chased the total down in 15.2 overs out of 18, Chris Hayward hiting 37 and Rob Walker again unbeaten on 39 giving us 3 wins out of 4 in the cup group.

I’m sure the grapevine has made its way to all teams of the news that Dolphins have disbanded and withdrawn from the league, with the panic that this would reduce division two, to just five teams, however I’m pleased to say that Heles Old boys have agreed to replace Dolphins, Heles will being playing home games a Heles School.
